The North Sea cluster is composed of four offshore wind farm sites and is expected to provide enough electricity for 1.6 million German households from 2029. Chinese company Dajin Offshore was selected as preferred supplier for all 104 offshore wind turbines. All services are subject to the final investment decision for the individual phases of the North Sea cluster (A and B).
Dajin Offshore is the largest private Chinese manufacturer of foundations, transition pieces and offshore towers for offshore wind turbines.
Benjamin Miethling, Northland Power's Managing Director for the North Sea Cluster, said, “We are excited to have signed the Preferred Supplier Agreement with Dajin as part of our strategy to achieve substantial economies of scale and leverage synergies during the development, construction and subsequent operation of our four wind farm sites. We will finalise the main contract over the coming months. We are looking forward to continuing our trustful and productive collaboration with Dajin, the plan being to have the first foundations in the water by 2025.”
The North Sea cluster will be constructed in two phases, with the first two wind farms (660 MW) from Phase A currently in the permitting phase. Installation of the 44 offshore foundations is expected to begin in 2025, with commercial operation scheduled in early 2027. Two more wind farms in the second phase (North Sea Cluster B) will add an additional 900 MW of capacity.

The North Sea cluster will be located in close proximity to the existing 332 MW Nordsee One wind farm, which RWE and Northland Power jointly developed and continue to jointly operate. In building the cluster, the partners will rely on experienced suppliers and their own expertise in offshore wind.
