Allseas has secured a contract with BP plc to complete the subsea pipelay scope for its ultra-deepwater Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) natural gas project offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
The contract covers the installation of approximately 46.6 miles (75 kilometers) outstanding on the two 16-inch export pipelines with field termination assemblies (FTAs) in water depths between 4,921 and 9,186 feet (1,500 and 2,800 meters), and four 10-inch CRA infield lines with FTAs up to 1.2 miles (two kilometers) long in 9,186 feet (2,800 meters) of water. The contract value was not disclosed.
Allseas will undertake GTA offshore pipelay works in early December using the world’s largest construction vessel, Pioneering Spirit. Installation support will be provided by the company’s offshore construction support vessel Oceanic, according to a recent news release.
“This agreement demonstrates both our willingness and ability to take on highly complex and pipelay projects with fast-track planning and execution scopes”, Allseas Chief Executive Pieter Heerema said. “We are excited to work with BP on this project, this opportunity re-establishes the partnership between our two companies and creates a platform on which to grow and strengthen future collaboration between BP and Allseas”.
Allseas said the installation of mixed-diameter pipelines and subsea structures in ultra-deepwater is the “perfect fit” for its S-lay vessel Pioneering Spirit, which has a record-breaking 2,000-metric-ton tension holding capacity. To install the 10 FTAs, the vessel will be fitted with a special 1,000-metric-ton J-mode installation frame, designed in-house and built at Allseas’ Heijningen fabrication yard in the Netherlands, according to the release.
The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project, straddling the border between Senegal and Mauritania, is being developed by BP Plc and Kosmos Energy Ltd. According to the BP website, the Tortue field is estimated to contain 15 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of recoverable gas resource potential. BP is reviewing concept options for future phases of development for the basin, which is believed to contain up to 100 Tcf of gas. “Greater Tortue Ahmeyim Phase 1 is the first step in establishing the basin as a world-class gas province and a major LNG [liquefied natural gas] hub”, BP notes.
ONE-Dyas Contract
Earlier in the year, Allseas signed an agreement to provide services to ONE-Dyas for the development of gas field N05-A in the North Sea, The project involves an investment of over $627.7 million (EUR 500 million) and is the largest Dutch investment in a natural gas development in the past 15 years, ONE-Dyas said in a separate news release.

We bring emissions to the absolute minimum, as the nearby offshore wind farm Riffgat supplies the platform N05-A with wind energy. This makes it the gas development with the lowest emissions in the North Sea”.
