On 6 November, the European Investment Bank (EIB) approved the financing for the Ba?tyk 2 and Ba?tyk 3 offshore wind projects in Poland, being developed by Polenergia and Norway’s Equinor.

According to a recent social media post by EIB vice president Teresa Czerwińska, the funds will be used to reduce emissions and air pollution, expand renewable energy sources, and support the broadly understood energy transformation in Poland, though the exact amount of funding was not specified.

In addition, the EIB’s involvement in the project will help strengthen the country’s energy security and introduce the latest technologies, said Czerwińska.

The Ba?tyk 2 and Ba?tyk 3 offshore wind farms received all necessary construction permits in August. Recently, the project companies, MFW Ba?tyk II Sp. z o.o. and MFW Ba?tyk III Sp. z o.o., signed a total of four agreements for the charter of crew transfer vessels (CTVs) for the construction of the wind farms.

Preparatory work on land is planned to start this year, and the first electricity from the wind farms is anticipated in 2027.

Ba?tyk 2 and Ba?tyk 3 have a combined capacity of 1,440 MW, and the commercial operations for both projects are scheduled to begin in 2028.
