Buss Terminal Eemshaven
Buss Ports, through its Eemshaven terminal and its subsidiary Buss Offshore Solutions, will provide support for the logistics and construction phases of the offshore wind project being developed by Ecowende, a consortium comprising Shell (60 per cent), Chubu Electric Power (30 per cent) and Eneco (10 per cent).
Buss Terminal Eemshaven will serve as the wind turbine marshalling port, offering over 200,000 square metres of storage and handling capacity for the components needed to build the 760 MW project.
That involves 52 sets of Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines, nacelles, blades, and towers, totalling more than 455 individual components and a combined weight of over 100,000 tonnes.
“The strategic location of the harbour, the spacious facilities which Buss continues to invest in and its experienced team, make Buss a logical fit for Ecowende. Due to its ecological program, there is significant variability across the Ecowende WTGs. We have confidence that Buss is able to support the need for flexibility that may come with this setup,” said Folkert Visser, Project Director at Ecowende.
The Ecowende consortium, initially comprising Shell and Eneco, secured the development rights for Hollandse Kust West VI in December 2022 and unveiled details of the environmental plans for the 760 MW offshore wind farm last year.
The offshore wind farm will be built approximately 53 kilometres off the coast of IJmuiden and will be able to produce enough electricity to meet around 3 per cent of the current demand for electricity in the Netherlands.
Van Oord will be responsible for transporting and installing the foundations; designing, procuring, and laying the connecting cables between the wind turbines; and transporting and installing the wind turbines.
