The facility is expected to create around 1,080 jobs, contributing to local employment and supporting Oman’s renewable energy goals. It will manufacture turbines for wind power plants, with production set to commence in mid-2026. Additionally, the plant will supply components for ongoing wind energy projects, further boosting job opportunities in the region.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the factory will produce turbines with capacities of 6.25MW and 9.6MW. A ministry representative stated: “This facility marks a significant step in advancing Oman’s renewable energy infrastructure and localizing clean energy technology.” The project aligns with the country’s strategy to enhance its sustainable energy framework.
The initiative includes collaboration with Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group through technology licensing and knowledge transfer agreements. A memorandum of understanding with OQ Group has also been established to support the development of the Duqm manufacturing plant. Furthermore, a separate agreement covers the facility’s detailed design, ensuring precision in its construction.
To build local expertise, a cooperation memorandum has been signed to train 350 job seekers for technical and specialized roles in the renewable energy sector. This training program aims to equip individuals with the skills needed to support the facility’s operations and contribute to the broader clean energy industry.
The Duqm facility is poised to become the region’s first hub for wind turbine manufacturing, strengthening Oman’s position in the renewable energy market. By producing high-capacity turbines and fostering local talent, the project supports the nation’s commitment to sustainable development and energy diversification.
