The agreement will enable Google to power its data centers, cloud region, and office operations in Taiwan with renewable energy from Feng Payable 1. Located off the coast of Taichung, the 500MW wind farm is slated to commence commercial operations in 2027. Earlier this year, Fengmiao 1 became the first project from Taiwan’s Round 3.1 auction to achieve financial close.
Developed through CIP’s CI IV fund, Fengmiao 1 is a key component of the company’s efforts to advance Taiwan’s renewable energy landscape. CIP aims to foster large-scale renewable infrastructure that supports local communities and attracts international investment. The company has also secured seabed rights for the adjacent 500MW Fengmiao 2 project under the same auction round.
Google emphasized that this deal enhances its portfolio of carbon-free energy initiatives in Taiwan, which already includes investments in solar and geothermal technologies. The partnership aligns with Google’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions to meet its operational needs.
CIP’s broader strategy includes contributing to Taiwan’s energy transition through sustainable projects. The Fengmiao 1 wind farm is expected to deliver reliable renewable energy, supporting both environmental goals and economic growth in the region.
