Scarlet II features a co-located 150MW/600MWh BESS, enhancing the project’s ability to provide stable power. The full 200MW solar output is secured through a 15-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA). Additionally, the BESS resource adequacy is supported by long-term agreements with Ava Community Energy and San José Clean Energy, aligning with California’s Resource Adequacy Program to ensure sufficient power capacity for grid reliability.
With Scarlet II, EDPRNA’s operational capacity in California exceeds 1.1GW, encompassing solar, wind, and storage projects, including the Scarlet solar park and the Rising Tree wind farm in Kern County. The new facility will generate enough electricity to power approximately 68,000 California homes annually, while contributing millions in tax revenue to local governments and boosting regional economies.
The construction of Scarlet II created 140 jobs and generated over $1.5 million in local spending. EDPRNA emphasized sustainability, recycling more than 1,700 tonnes of construction materials—over 60% of the total—through partnerships with EPC Rosendin and materials recyclers, as part of its Close the Loop Program.
EDP Renewables North America CEO Sandhya Ganapathy stated: “After our successful launch of Scarlet I, we are thrilled to add Scarlet II to our portfolio and build on our record of delivering energy reliability and resiliency for Fresno County and the Golden State. We are proud that our meaningful partnerships and investments in the community helped generate strong local support for the expansion of Scarlet solar energy park.”
Scarlet II strengthens California’s renewable energy infrastructure, supporting local communities and advancing sustainable energy goals through innovative solar and storage solutions.
