The project involves the construction of a new production line next to the existing Soarnol plant. Soarnol produces ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) polymer, which is used in automotive components, packaging materials, and consumer goods. Bilfinger will handle a wide range of tasks, including the installation of several thousand tonnes of structural steel, the fabrication of thousands of meters of piping, the establishment of new electrical, instrumentation, and control infrastructure, and the installation of complex equipment, including heavy lifts. The work is set to begin immediately and will be carried out by Bilfinger UK’s Automation and Projects business unit.
Bilfinger has worked with Mitsubishi Chemical U.K. at the Saltend Chemical Park for over 20 years, providing maintenance and turnaround services. This long-standing relationship and Bilfinger’s familiarity with the site will help ensure a smooth execution of the new project. The company will apply its standard best practices, such as Bilfinger Maintenance Solutions (BMS) and Bilfinger Turnaround Solutions (BTS), to optimize operational efficiency, minimize costs, and reduce downtime during the project.
Darren Clement, Vice President of Engineering, Automation & Projects at Bilfinger Engineering and Maintenance UK, commented: “Securing this significant award and being part of this Project is a testament to our team’s expertise and commitment to delivering excellence. Our extensive experience on the Mitsubishi site and our reputation for high-quality work have positioned us well for this exciting opportunity. We look forward to continuing our strong collaboration with Mitsubishi Chemical, contributing to the success of the Saltend Chemical Park.”
Bilfinger will employ approximately 250 people on-site during the project, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations at the plant. The project will also align with Bilfinger’s sustainability goals, focusing on improving efficiencies and providing added value through intelligent construction methods.
Once the project is completed, Bilfinger will continue to support Mitsubishi Chemical with ongoing maintenance and potential future enhancements, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in the chemical industry.
