
The Bahren West 2 wind farm, with a capacity of 61.6 MW, will feature 11 wind turbines, each generating 5.6 MW. Once operational, it is expected to produce enough renewable energy to power approximately 45,000 German households. To connect the electricity to the grid, Orsted is constructing a new substation. Stefan Bachmaier, managing director of Orsted Onshore Germany, stated: “By utilising the existing road infrastructure, we can expand Bahren West 2 efficiently and in an environmentally friendly manner.”
Earthworks and road construction began in mid-May 2025 and are set to conclude in the coming months. The project leverages existing pathways from Bahren West 1 to minimize environmental impact on the surrounding forest. Foundation work for the turbines is scheduled to start in the summer of 2026, followed by the erection of turbine towers. Full commissioning of the wind farm is anticipated for 2027.
Orsted project manager Miro Peer commented: “We are excited to start the construction work for Bahren West 2 and to work closely with local partners.” The combined Bahren West 1 and 2 wind farms will include 20 turbines with a total capacity of 112 MW, contributing significantly to the region’s renewable energy goals.
