Jeonnam 1 is South Korea’s largest privately led offshore wind farm and has been developed with a local mindset, underscored by a commitment to strong and lasting partnerships, COP said.
Jeonnam 1 comprises ten 9.6 MW turbines—and is expected to power around 90,000 households
This approach has looked like close stakeholder cooperation to support an effective regulatory environment and dynamic collaboration with domestic supply chain partners and local communities, to build out local economic revitalisation, COP said.
This ultimately is strengthening Korea’s offshore wind supply chain ecosystem and supports the training and development of skilled professionals in the sector, it added.
Jesper Krarup Holst, COP partner and head of APAC, and chief operating officer for the Jeonnam 1, 2 and 3 portfolio, said: "Achieving this milestone is a significant step forward in our efforts to expand renewable energy in the region.
"We remain committed to supporting the development of sustainable solutions that create local value, strengthen supply chains, and contribute to Korea’s energy independence and climate commitments."
This project is part of COP and CIP’s greater development pipeline in Korea, including approximately 5 GW of offshore wind projects in Shinan, Ulsan and Taean, including Jeonnam 2 &3, Haesong 1 & 3, Haegum 1 & 2, and Taean Wind Power.
