
Muara Laboh geothermal plant, West Sumatra, Indonesia
Recently, PT SEML finalized funding for Muara Laboh Unit 2, achieving financial close and amending its power purchase agreement with PT PLN, Indonesia’s local power distributor. This milestone enables construction to start soon. The project, valued at approximately USD 500 million, has received USD 370 million in funding through the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative, including USD 92.6 million from the Asian Development Bank.
Fuji Electric has been a key player in the global geothermal sector since the 1960s, leveraging its expertise in engineering and producing durable, corrosion-resistant equipment. The company has contributed to several international projects, including the Menengai geothermal project in Kenya, the Hell’s Kitchen geothermal and lithium project in California, and the Tauhara geothermal power station in New Zealand, which began operations in 2024.
The Muara Laboh Stage 2 project supports Indonesia’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity, enhancing energy reliability and sustainability in West Sumatra. By supplying advanced equipment, Fuji Electric plays a vital role in advancing clean energy solutions, contributing to both regional development and global environmental goals.
