The Boxing Academy, recently rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, uses the discipline of boxing to engage students who face challenges in mainstream education. The academy’s trust emphasizes delivering high-quality education tailored to these students’ needs, fostering personal and academic growth.
Designed by architects Holmes Miller, the new 1,500-square-meter building maximizes the constrained urban site, featuring classrooms arranged around a private courtyard to enhance privacy and allow natural light. McLaren Construction’s experience with complex urban projects is key, given the site’s proximity to residents, businesses, a neighboring school, and Red Route traffic restrictions.
The project will create opportunities for local youth, including T-level placements, apprenticeships, and work experience, aiming to promote careers in construction. The Boxing Academy’s community, including staff, students, and parents, will participate through site tours and presentations, building excitement for the new facility.
“This project is a fantastic opportunity to create a purpose-built environment that supports the unique educational approach of the Boxing Academy,” said a McLaren Construction spokesperson. The new school is expected to be completed by September 2026, adding to McLaren’s portfolio of seven educational facilities already delivered in the London Borough of Hackney.
In a separate development, McLaren Construction’s Midlands and North division has completed a cold storage facility for Magnavale, a UK-based provider of temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics services, further showcasing the company’s expertise across diverse construction sectors.
The Boxing Academy project highlights a commitment to innovative education solutions and community engagement, providing a modern, sustainable space for students to thrive while contributing to local economic and educational opportunities in Hackney.
