The components will be manufactured by Grupa Przemys?owa Baltic at its facility in Gdańsk. These elements are essential for the protection and maintenance of offshore wind foundations. Boat landings facilitate safe access to turbines, while anode cages help protect the structures from corrosion and mechanical damage.
According to PGE Baltica CEO Bartosz Fedurek: “The signing of this agreement is another step forward for Poland's rapidly growing offshore wind energy supply chain. Key components needed for the construction and subsequent safe operation of offshore wind farms will be manufactured in Poland. One of PGE's main goals is to maximise the participation of domestic companies in both current and future offshore projects in Poland. The use of Polish facilities and the knowledge of our specialists is another important contribution to the development of the domestic industry in the huge and strategic undertaking, which is the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic.”
Ulrik Lange, vice president and managing director of the Baltica 2 project at Ørsted, emphasized the significance of local supply chain involvement: “Today's signing of an agreement with a Polish company for such an important area as secondary steel is a clear signal that the domestic supply chain can compete in the offshore wind industry. This competitiveness is also important for investors as it fosters innovation, which is a key element in the development of offshore wind technology worldwide.”
Adam Kowalski, CEO of Grupa Przemys?owa Baltic, highlighted the company's role in the project: “GP Baltic's participation in the Baltica 2 project not only confirms our competence in the production of advanced steel structures for the offshore sector but also provides concrete support for the development of the Polish supply chain. We are developing the production of steel structures for foundations, so-called secondary steel, which play a key role in ensuring the durability and safety of offshore wind farms. We are pleased that the components produced in Gdańsk will work for Poland's energy transition.”
Grupa Przemys?owa Baltic is part of the Baltic Industrial Group, a holding company owned by the Industrial Development Agency. Based in Gdańsk, the group includes Gdańsk Shipyard, Energomonta? Pó?noc-Gdynia, and Baltic Operator. It specializes in producing steel structures for both onshore and offshore wind power.
The Baltica 2 project has entered the offshore construction phase this year, with seabed preparation for foundation and cable installation scheduled to begin soon.
