Air Products announced: “The 4 GW solar and wind power generation sites are scheduled for completion by mid-2026, with first ammonia product availability expected in 2027.” The project, managed by NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC)—an equal joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM—is set to become the world’s largest green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility powered entirely by renewable energy.
Located in Oxagon, within Saudi Arabia’s NEOM region, the facility spans over 300 square kilometers and is designed to produce up to 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen daily, converted into green ammonia for cost-effective use in global transportation and industrial sectors. The project integrates established technologies on an unprecedented scale, using ammonia to transport hydrogen to international markets. It is expected to reduce global carbon emissions by approximately five million metric tonnes annually.
The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Green Initiative, relying on 4 gigawatts of renewable electricity from dedicated on-site wind and solar plants to power the facility.
