The Shenhai Yihao gas field holds proven geological reserves exceeding 150 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The first phase of production began in June 2021. Natural gas from the field is delivered to coastal terminals in Hong Kong, Sanya in Hainan, and Zhuhai in Guangdong, supporting key economic regions and connecting to the national gas pipeline network.
The second phase marks China’s most technically complex deepwater gas project to date, operating under extreme temperatures and pressures. It is also the country’s deepest gas development, with water depths over 1,500 meters and well depths exceeding 5,000 meters. These conditions required advanced engineering solutions to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Liu Kang, project manager, stated: “The production infrastructure and technical expertise established through the project will help future complex deepwater oil and gas exploration, enhancing the role of marine resources in supporting national energy supply.” The project’s infrastructure and technological advancements are expected to support further exploration and strengthen China’s energy supply chain.
The successful completion of Shenhai Yihao’s second phase underscores CNOOC’s commitment to advancing offshore energy development. By leveraging marine resources, the project contributes to meeting the energy demands of key economic regions while reinforcing the integration of offshore gas into China’s national energy network.
