The 1,120-square-metre building, leased long-term from Real Immobilien, will house approximately 50 RWE employees. It features a state-of-the-art control room, office spaces, and break areas designed for 24/7 operations. The centre will monitor ship movements, wind turbines, and substations, ensuring efficient and reliable energy production.
RWE stated: “From here, ship movements, wind turbines and substations will all be monitored.” The facility is being constructed to meet high sustainability standards, targeting certification under Germany’s QNG quality seal for sustainable buildings, reflecting RWE’s commitment to environmentally responsible development.
In addition to its operational role, the Jemgum centre will serve as the project office for the 1.6GW Nordseecluster, a major offshore wind project RWE is developing in partnership with Norges Bank Investment Management. Located north of Juist, the Nordseecluster is expected to supply electricity to up to 1.6 million households once operational, contributing significantly to Europe’s renewable energy goals.
The new control centre represents a key step in strengthening RWE’s offshore wind operations, enhancing coordination and efficiency across its portfolio. By centralizing monitoring and project management, the facility will support the growth of clean energy infrastructure in the region, aligning with global efforts to expand renewable energy capacity.
