The integration of 5G-A and AI is set to transform the telecommunications industry. Wen Ku, Chairman of the China Communications Standards Association (CCSA), stated: “The integration of 5G-A and AI is one of the key directions of development of telecommunications networks. We should focus on setting standards, integrating intelligent networks, and implementing joint development projects within ecosystems to create new solutions in the field of telecommunications AI.” This synergy is expected to support dynamic industry growth by enabling innovative solutions.
Industry leaders from Rokid, MiniMax, and Unitree Robotics discussed how AI service providers can capitalize on new market opportunities. Operators are expanding beyond traditional touchscreen interactions to include voice, visual, and spatial interfaces. AI solutions now deliver higher audiovisual data rates and improved model precision, leveraging 5G-A networks to reduce latency. This supports services like real-time interaction and high-quality AI video calls, requiring uplink speeds of at least 20 Mbps for seamless performance.
Speakers, including Zhi-Quan Luo from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and IEEE, alongside representatives from operators and Ookla, shared insights on network optimization and strategic AI integration. AI is transforming mobile networks, simplifying digital transformation, network operations, and maintenance. It enables operators to offer diverse services across industries, monetizing both network traffic and service offerings. Key factors for AI in telecommunications include uplink bandwidth, low latency, and network stability.
Huawei introduced its GigaBand portfolio, combining bandwidth and radio resources with an optimization solver to support 5G-A network evolution for AI services. This enables flexible networks for applications like live streaming, mobile AI assistants, and cloud gaming. In Hong Kong, GigaBand’s deployment facilitated shared 4G/5G bands, boosting 5G capacity by 2.28 times while maintaining 4G user experience quality. This solution supports operators in building efficient, intelligent, and low-emission 5G-A networks.
As 5G-A advances with technologies like GigaBand, telecom AI is emerging as a significant revenue driver. Collaborative innovations across industries are enhancing digital experiences through intelligent services. Huawei displayed its latest offerings in Hall N1 at SNIEC, working with global operators and experts to integrate AI into telecom services, infrastructure, and operations, fostering new revenue streams and accelerating the adoption of intelligent technologies.
