Windrose Technology, a Chinese startup specializing in new energy commercial vehicles, has secured a major order for several hundred electric heavy-duty trucks from Trailor Logistics, a leading logistics company based in Santiago, Chile. According to a post on Windrose’s WeChat account, the first batch of trucks has received down payments, with deliveries scheduled to begin later in 2025.

This agreement marks Windrose’s entry into South America, its fifth continent, following expansions into Europe, North America, and Oceania. As a prominent exporter of new energy vehicles, Windrose is broadening its global presence, with this partnership enhancing its reach in the South American market. Trailor Logistics, serving global clients such as Walmart and Heineken, strengthens the collaboration’s impact.
Historically, South America has been less prioritized by Chinese firms due to its geographic distance and limited English-language infrastructure. However, increasing bilateral trade, infrastructure developments like Peru’s Chancay Port, and currency swap agreements have elevated the region’s importance for Chinese companies seeking global markets. These factors have created opportunities for firms like Windrose to introduce sustainable transport solutions.
Windrose’s founder, chairman, and CEO, Han Wen, stated: “The company plans to expand its presence across Spanish-speaking regions in Europe and the Americas, aiming to accelerate the global adoption of zero-emission freight solutions.” This partnership aligns with Windrose’s mission to provide environmentally friendly logistics options worldwide.
Chile, a key South American economy, is well-suited to advance sustainable transportation. Positioned along the Pacific coast with the Andes Mountains as a backdrop, the country benefits from abundant wind and solar resources. It accounts for a quarter of global copper production and holds 78% of South America’s lithium reserves, critical for battery manufacturing. The Chilean government supports this transition with a roadmap targeting net-zero emissions for road freight and intercity buses by 2045.
Chile’s unique geography, stretching 4,305 kilometers north to south but averaging only 200 kilometers wide, poses distinct logistics challenges. Route 5, part of the Pan-American Highway, manages roughly half of Chile’s freight traffic. Windrose’s electric trucks, equipped with a 670-kilometer range at full load and megawatt-level fast-charging, are designed to address these challenges. The trucks offer zero-emission, efficient, and reliable performance, tailored for long-haul logistics in South America.
This collaboration underscores Windrose’s commitment to sustainable transportation and strengthens Chile’s efforts to decarbonize its logistics sector. By delivering advanced electric trucks, Windrose supports global and regional goals for cleaner, more efficient freight transport.
