The Riviera Tower, twice the height of the current tallest building, the 103-meter Athens Tower 1 completed in 1971, is being constructed by a joint venture of Bouygues and Greece’s Intrakat, with Mace and Jacobs as project managers and Hill International overseeing supervision. The project has earned LEED Gold Pre-Certification, reflecting its commitment to sustainable design and construction practices.
In 2023, Mace managed Greece’s largest single concrete pour for the tower’s foundations, utilizing over 7,000 cubic meters of a specialized concrete mix with 70% less cement than standard formulations. This 38-hour continuous pour marked a significant milestone in the project’s development, emphasizing efficiency and environmental responsibility.
The Riviera Tower is one of four planned towers within The Ellinikon, a major greenfield urban regeneration initiative billed as Europe’s largest. The project aims to transform the former airport site into a vibrant, sustainable urban hub. The tower is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026, aligning with the first phase of The Ellinikon’s development.
A Lamda Development spokesperson stated: “The Riviera Tower represents a bold step forward in redefining Athens’ skyline while prioritizing sustainability and innovation. This milestone reflects the dedication of our partners and the shared vision for The Ellinikon as a model for urban regeneration.”
The Ellinikon project, with the Riviera Tower at its core, is designed to enhance Athens’ coastal area, offering modern residential spaces and contributing to economic growth. The tower’s strategic location and sustainable features, such as the energy-efficient concrete mix and LEED certification, underscore its role in advancing environmentally conscious urban development.
Foster + Partners’ architectural design ensures the tower blends aesthetic excellence with functionality, catering to diverse residential needs. The collaboration among international and local firms, including Bouygues, Intrakat, Mace, Jacobs, and Hill International, highlights the project’s global and local significance. As construction progresses, the Riviera Tower is poised to become a landmark in Greece, symbolizing innovation and sustainability in urban planning.
