BP Wind Energy will be owned and operated as part of Clearlight Energy, LS Power’s portfolio company.
The acquired assets will be integrated into Clearlight Energy, LS Power’s renewable energy subsidiary, expanding its operating fleet to 4.3GW. Clearlight Energy’s portfolio already includes wind, solar, and battery storage, and this deal diversifies its operations across the U.S. and Canada. LS Power’s broader portfolio encompasses 21GW of operating capacity, including renewable, energy storage, flexible gas, and renewable fuels, alongside over 780 miles of high-voltage transmission lines and 350 miles under development.
LS Power CEO Paul Segal stated: “LS Power’s mission is to solve complex energy problems to improve the world and make lives better by developing a cleaner, more reliable and affordable energy ecosystem, and today’s announcement represents a material investment in reaching that goal.” He added that BP Wind Energy’s integration into Clearlight Energy will enhance geographic reach and support efficient, affordable energy solutions.
The transaction, advised by Greenberg Traurig (legal) and Barclays and Santander (financial), is expected to close by the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. The acquisition aligns with LS Power’s strategy to expand sustainable energy solutions, contributing to cleaner energy consumption without impacting import or export dynamics.
BP’s gas and low carbon energy EVP William Lin commented: “We have been clear that while low carbon energy has a role to play in a simpler, more focused BP, we will continue to rationalise and optimise our portfolio to generate value. The onshore U.S. wind business has great assets and fantastic people, but we have concluded we are no longer the best owners to take it forward.” Lin emphasized a smooth transition to maintain safe and reliable operations.
This deal follows recent activity in the energy sector, including NRG Energy’s $12 billion acquisition of LS Power Equity Advisors’ natural gas facilities in May 2025. The BP Wind Energy acquisition positions LS Power to further its commitment to renewable energy, enhancing its capacity to meet growing demand for sustainable power across diverse U.S. regions.
