The project aims to serve both domestic and international markets, utilizing Krishnapatnam’s port infrastructure to meet demand in Europe and Asia. Several international financial institutions have expressed interest in supporting the initiative, which carries an estimated investment of INR 160 billion (approximately $1.85 billion). The development is expected to generate around 5,500 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to economic growth in the region.
Shailendra Bebortha, Yamna’s Country Head for India, highlighted the strategic advantages of the location: “The state’s rich renewable energy potential, progressive policy framework, and strategic location make it an ideal destination for green hydrogen development.” He further noted: “We thank NREDCAP, AP EDB & AP IIC and other government departments for their active cooperation for the initiative. This project will not only support India’s decarbonization goals but will also position Andhra Pradesh as a key player in the global green hydrogen economy.”
The initiative aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which targets 5 million tons per annum of green hydrogen production by 2030. By leveraging Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy resources and port connectivity, the project supports sustainable energy development and strengthens the state’s role in the global transition to cleaner energy sources. The facility’s phased development will focus on scalability and efficiency to meet growing demand for green ammonia, a key component in decarbonizing industries such as shipping and agriculture.
This collaboration between Yamna and NREDCAP underscores a commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions. The project is poised to enhance Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy infrastructure while fostering job creation and economic opportunities. By integrating advanced technologies and leveraging international partnerships, the initiative aims to contribute significantly to sustainable development goals, both locally and globally.
