Ceres Power Holdings plc, based in Horsham, U.K., and Doosan Fuel Cell Ltd. have begun mass production of fuel cell stacks using Ceres’ solid-oxide technology at a dedicated facility in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea. The factory, operational since 2022, has a production capacity of 50MW of electrical power annually, marking a key milestone as Doosan becomes the first of Ceres’ licensing partners to initiate large-scale manufacturing.

The fuel cells and power systems will initially target customers in South Korea, focusing on stationary distributed power applications. These include data centers, where rising AI processing demands require reliable energy, as well as renewable energy grid stabilization, building power systems, and auxiliary power for maritime shipping.

The Jeollabuk-do facility is the world’s first to produce Ceres’ metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells and systems. Doosan anticipates its first sales of these products before the end of 2025. The technology offers high efficiency and durability, making it suitable for addressing diverse energy needs while supporting global decarbonization efforts.

This development follows Ceres’ 2024 collaboration with Thermax, Ltd. for solid-oxide electrolyzer module production in India. The partnership with Doosan strengthens South Korea’s position as a leader in clean energy, supporting sustainable power solutions for both local and global markets.
