CATL solidified its position as a global leader in electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage battery markets. According to SNE Research, CATL’s global EV battery installation market share reached 38.1% from January to May 2025, up 0.6 percentage points year-on-year. In energy storage, ICCSINO data confirmed CATL as the top global producer by output in the first half of 2025.
The power battery systems segment generated 131.57 billion yuan in revenue, up 16.8% from the previous year, with a gross margin of 22.41%. Energy storage system revenue slightly declined by 1.47% to 28.4 billion yuan but achieved a higher gross margin of 25.52%. At its earnings briefing, CATL noted: “Overall capacity utilization remained around 90% in H1,” reflecting robust demand.
CATL introduced several new products in H1 2025. For passenger vehicles, it launched the second-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery, the Freevoy Dual-core Battery, and the Naxtra passenger EV Battery. In energy storage, mass production began for a 587Ah high-capacity cell designed for grid-scale applications. The company also expanded its battery-swapping infrastructure, completing over 400 stations for passenger vehicles and about 100 for heavy-duty trucks, aiming for 1,000 and 300 stations, respectively, by year-end.
Research and development remained a priority, with CATL investing 10.1 billion yuan in H1 2025, a 17.48% increase year-on-year, focusing on next-generation technologies like solid-state batteries. A company spokesperson stated: “Most scientific hurdles have been addressed, with remaining challenges now primarily focused on engineering and scalability.” Limited production of solid-state batteries is planned for 2027, with wider commercialization targeted for 2030.
To support growing market demand, CATL plans to increase capital expenditure in 2025 to expand production capacity. The company’s advancements in product innovation and infrastructure development reinforce its leadership in the global battery industry, contributing to sustainable energy solutions.
