Construction on the $1.6 billion first phase of Terminal F began in November 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2027, featuring 15 gates. The full $4 billion Terminal F expansion will include 31 gates, all operated by American Airlines, with enhanced capacity for international flights and widebody aircraft. The project will also feature a new light rail station and a pedestrian connection to Terminal D. American Airlines plans to reallocate some gates to other carriers elsewhere in the airport.
The project is led by Innovation Next+, a consortium comprising Archer Western Construction, Turner Construction, Phillips May Corporation, HJ Russell & Company, and Carcon Industries, with design support from consultants Gensler, PGAL, and Muller2.
Mohamed Charkas, DFW’s executive vice president of infrastructure and development, stated: “DFW is at the forefront of innovation in terminal construction, continually redefining what’s possible. The time we save using modular construction techniques is crucial for fostering the growth of our community and supporting our airline partners. We are steadfast in our commitment to being an economic engine for North Texas.”
The use of modular construction accelerates the project timeline, enhancing efficiency while maintaining high standards. The Terminal F expansion strengthens DFW’s role as a major aviation hub, supporting economic growth in North Texas by accommodating increased passenger and airline demands. The project’s design and infrastructure improvements, including the light rail station, aim to enhance connectivity and passenger experience while supporting sustainable growth in the region’s aviation sector.
