Wheat accounted for the largest share, with 2 million tons exported. However, this was 1.5 times lower than the volume shipped in the same period last year. Barley exports amounted to 504 thousand tons, showing a sharp decrease from 1.1 million tons at the same date in the previous season. Rye has not been exported since the beginning of this marketing year, indicating a halt in overseas supply for this crop.
Corn shipments totaled 846 thousand tons, down 2.6 times compared to the previous year’s level. In addition, flour exports reached 7.6 thousand tons, marking a significant decline of 172% from last season’s figure. The data highlight a considerable contraction in export volumes across major grain categories.
For reference, in the 2024/25 marketing year, total exports of grain and leguminous crops stood at 40.6 million tons. Of this amount, wheat contributed 15.7 million tons, barley 2.3 million tons, rye 10.8 thousand tons, corn 22 million tons, and flour 71.1 thousand tons.
The current export figures for 2025/26 suggest a substantial slowdown in comparison with the previous season. The reduction is evident across all major crops, with particularly sharp decreases in barley, corn, and flour exports. Wheat, while still the main component of exports, has also seen a significant drop in volume.
The decline in rye exports is notable, as no shipments have been recorded so far this season. Flour exports also show a steep fall, contrasting sharply with the stronger levels seen last year. These figures indicate a shifting trend in Ukraine’s grain export performance early in the marketing year.
Overall, the export data as of late August reflect weaker volumes compared with the same period in 2024/25. Whether this trend continues throughout the remainder of the marketing year will depend on a range of factors including production levels, global demand, and logistics conditions. The current trajectory, however, underscores a significant difference between this season’s early performance and the prior year’s export results.
