The investment comes from a consortium led by international investor Equitix, alongside Australian pension fund Aware Super and the United Kingdom’s National Wealth Fund (NWF), a sovereign wealth fund wholly owned by the UK Treasury. Equitix confirmed that the NWF has committed up to GBP 200 million to Eelpower Energy. A spokesperson for Equitix stated: “The investment is dedicated exclusively to projects within the UK.”
Eelpower Energy plans to deliver over 1 gigawatt (GW) of new battery storage projects, enhancing the UK’s energy infrastructure. These grid-scale assets will help stabilize the national grid by storing and supplying energy as needed, supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.
The funding marks a significant step in advancing the UK’s energy storage capabilities. By developing large-scale battery systems, Eelpower Energy aims to contribute to a more reliable and sustainable energy network. The projects are expected to play a key role in meeting the country’s growing demand for clean energy solutions.
The consortium’s investment reflects confidence in the potential of battery storage to transform the UK’s energy sector. Equitix, as the lead investor, brings extensive experience in infrastructure projects, while Aware Super and the NWF add financial strength to the initiative. This collaboration underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in driving energy innovation.
Eelpower Energy’s focus on grid-scale storage aligns with broader efforts to modernize the UK’s energy system. The company’s projects are anticipated to create economic opportunities, including jobs in construction and operations, while supporting environmental goals by facilitating the use of renewable energy.
The spokesperson for Equitix emphasized: “This investment will enable Eelpower Energy to deliver critical infrastructure that supports the UK’s transition to a cleaner energy future.” The company is poised to begin developing its portfolio of battery storage projects, with plans to operationalize them in the coming years.
This initiative highlights the growing role of battery storage in ensuring energy security and sustainability. By leveraging significant investment, Eelpower Energy is well-positioned to contribute to the UK’s energy goals, fostering a resilient and forward-looking energy grid.
