Ampeak Energy is preparing for Uskmouth to become a key battery-powered energy location.
Through EDF’s Powershift platform and its trading expertise, the partnership aims to optimize the AW1 project’s efficiency, ensuring electricity is delivered when demand peaks. This collaboration strengthens the facility’s role in the UK’s transition to sustainable energy. EDF Wholesale Market Services commercial director Stuart Fenner stated: “We’re proud to be working with Ampeak Energy on this landmark project. Battery storage is key to helping the UK reach its climate goal, and our partnership will unlock long-term value from one of the UK’s most exciting clean energy sites.”
With financial arrangements finalized, Ampeak Energy is positioning Uskmouth as a significant hub for battery-powered energy. Ampeak Energy COO David Taaffe said: “AW1 is our flagship battery project, and our partnership with EDF gives us the confidence to deliver lasting value and build momentum towards the creation of one of the largest battery sites in the UK, which can be a catalyst for local and national regeneration.”
In July 2025, EDF announced plans to streamline its international operations to focus on domestic projects under its new CEO, Bernard Fontana. On July 16, 2025, an EDF spokesperson confirmed: “We are studying the possibility of opening the capital of some of our subsidiaries to partners,” as part of efforts to attract investment for its North American and Brazilian renewables divisions, potentially involving the sale of up to 50% stakes, according to Reuters.
The Uskmouth partnership underscores EDF’s commitment to advancing clean energy infrastructure in the UK. By optimizing the AW1 BESS, EDF and Ampeak Energy aim to enhance grid stability and support the country’s environmental objectives, contributing to both local economic growth and national energy sustainability.
