According to the agency, crude oil production averaged 746,249 barrels per day (bpd) in July, a decrease of 4.8% compared with the same month in 2024. Despite the annual decline, the figure represented a slight increase from June, when output was reported at 744,239 bpd.
Natural gas production also registered a significant drop. Marketed volumes averaged 1.196 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in July, marking a 16.3% decline from the level recorded in July 2024. Compared with the previous month, gas output was down 6.4% from the 1.278 bcfd reported in June.
The agency did not immediately provide specific reasons for the decreases in both oil and gas production. However, the figures highlight ongoing challenges in maintaining stable hydrocarbon output across the country.
Oil remains one of Colombia’s key exports and a central component of its energy sector. Variations in production levels can affect revenues, market supply, and future investment decisions. Similarly, natural gas plays an important role in domestic consumption and energy balance, making shifts in output a matter of attention for both producers and policymakers.
While the July results showed declines compared with the prior year, the slight month-on-month increase in oil production suggests a degree of stabilization. On the other hand, the reduction in natural gas output from both monthly and yearly perspectives indicates a sharper adjustment in that segment of the sector.
The National Hydrocarbons Agency is expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available. Market participants and observers are closely monitoring the performance of Colombia’s hydrocarbon industry, given its significance to the country’s economy and its role in meeting domestic energy demand.
In summary, Colombia reported a year-on-year decline in both oil and gas production for July. Oil averaged 746,249 bpd, down 4.8% from July 2024 but slightly higher than June levels, while natural gas production averaged 1.196 bcfd, representing a 16.3% annual decrease and a 6.4% drop from June. The reasons for the decline were not disclosed in the agency’s statement.
