The facility is designed to achieve LEED-NC Silver certification.
The project includes the demolition of the current Bristow building and the development of a 6,000m² facility. The new centre will house the programmes previously accommodated in Wygal Hall. It will feature spaces for music teaching, rehearsal rooms, performance areas, offices, and a concert hall with seating capacity for 500 people. According to Skanska, the building will be designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) NC Silver certification standards.
Construction began in August 2025 and is scheduled for completion by April 2028. The project reflects Longwood University’s aim to expand and modernize facilities to support education and performance arts.
In addition to the Virginia contract, Skanska signed an agreement this week with the Trust for Governors Island in New York City. The deal, valued at $67 million, will also be reflected in Skanska’s Q3 2025 order bookings. The scope of work covers preconstruction and construction services for a 27kV enclosed substation, which will support the island’s infrastructure needs.
Skanska’s activities in the United States have also expanded in North Carolina. In August 2025, the company secured a $69 million contract with Durham Tech Community College to construct a new health sciences building. The project involves the development of a three-storey facility of approximately 7,400m². The building is designed to accommodate a range of programmes for the institution and strengthen its capacity to serve students in health-related fields.
The series of projects demonstrates Skanska’s continued engagement in the US construction market, spanning education, cultural, and infrastructure sectors. By integrating sustainability objectives such as LEED certification and providing specialized facilities, the company aims to align with modern standards in design and construction.
With contracts in Virginia, New York, and North Carolina signed in the past two months, Skanska’s portfolio highlights both regional diversity and sectoral variety. These initiatives reflect the company’s strategy to participate in large-scale developments that meet community and institutional needs while reinforcing its order bookings for 2025.
