Currently, Ericsson infrastructure accounts for nearly half of Play’s network, comprising close to 6,000 base stations. The agreement strengthens cooperation between the two companies in digital infrastructure development, cybersecurity, system resilience, and sustainable growth. Both parties highlighted the importance of this collaboration in driving Poland’s digitalization and preparing for future connectivity needs.
As part of the memorandum, Play and Ericsson will continue testing 5G standalone networks in Bia?ystok. This technology is particularly suited for local authorities and businesses pursuing smart city solutions or private campus networks. Research and development activities will also be expanded at Ericsson’s facilities in ?ód? and Kraków, focusing on frequency efficiency and energy-saving innovations.
Another priority of the agreement is promoting responsible digitalization with sustainability in mind. Ericsson has emphasized that 5G can serve as a catalyst for reducing carbon emissions by enabling greater efficiency across industries and public services. Both companies share this approach and aim to provide customers with reliable services that also support environmental objectives.
The collaboration between Play and Ericsson began in 2018 and has already led to major improvements in Poland’s telecommunications sector. These efforts have increased access to digital services nationwide, enhanced network quality, and reduced environmental impact through energy-efficient solutions. The two companies have also played a key role in building one of the country’s most advanced 5G ecosystems.
Micha? Zió?kowski, Play Management Board Member and Chief Technology Officer, said: “Thanks to our partnership with Ericsson, we are consistently developing one of the most modern mobile networks in Poland. This allows us not only to respond to the challenges of growing network usage, security, and energy consumption, but above all, to provide customers with reliable services available nationwide. Our agreement opens another chapter – even more innovation, even better quality, and further support for Poland’s digitalization.”
Martin Mellor, Head of Ericsson in Poland, added: “As a strategic partner with Play, we will implement Ericsson’s cutting-edge solutions on a large scale. Millions of customers and businesses are already benefiting from our innovations. Thanks to the partnership we have just signed, the quality of mobile services will improve, helping Poland become a regional leader in digitalization, with 5G technology as a driving force.”
This new stage of cooperation underlines both companies’ long-term commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable, and technologically advanced digital infrastructure in Poland.
