The project lays the groundwork for future commercial-scale operations.
At the demonstration site, floaters are installed to capture the movement of ocean waves and convert it into power. The initiative aims to highlight the potential of wave energy as a reliable and sustainable source of electricity. Eco Wave Power emphasized that while this is a pilot project, it lays the foundation for expanding wave energy technology in global markets.
Eco Wave Power founder and CEO Inna Braverman said: “I’m excited to announce that our next projects are already being prepared in Taiwan, India, and Portugal. Wave energy has enormous potential – it is predictable, reliable, and available right here on our coastlines. With projects like this, we are proving that wave energy is not just the future – it is here, now.”
The launch comes at a notable time for California, where state climate policies support the development of alternative energy sources. Senate Bill 605 calls for a comprehensive wave energy roadmap, reinforcing California’s interest in integrating marine energy into its clean energy strategy.
Federal support for marine energy development is also increasing. Congresswoman Nanette Díaz Barragán introduced the Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act, a $1 billion initiative aimed at advancing marine energy technologies nationwide. Barragán said: “Eco Wave Power made history by deploying its innovative wave energy technology into US waters for the very first time. This milestone shows incredible potential for wave energy to power our communities with clean, renewable electricity, while creating jobs and protecting our environment.”
In addition to the Los Angeles project, Eco Wave Power is expanding its international presence. Earlier this year, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Petroleum to explore India’s wave energy potential, which is estimated at 40,000 MW. The agreement highlights how partnerships can accelerate the adoption of wave energy across regions with significant coastal resources.
By demonstrating the technology in the United States and pursuing new opportunities abroad, Eco Wave Power is advancing wave energy as part of the broader renewable energy landscape. The collaboration with AltaSea and Shell Marine Renewable Energy, alongside legislative support at both state and federal levels, underlines growing interest in harnessing the ocean as a sustainable energy resource.
