In 2014, the company introduced what it described as the world’s first marine floating solar platform. Since then, it has delivered projects across the Maldives, with more than 30 MW of solar capacity installed. The company’s solutions are intended to support island regions where land space is limited but energy demand is increasing.
The newly completed SolarSea project at Fari Campus reflects Swimsol’s ongoing efforts to expand floating solar applications in coastal and island settings. By installing large-scale floating solar systems offshore, the company aims to help local communities reduce dependence on imported fuels while increasing renewable energy consumption.
In 2021, Swimsol secured a $14 million (€11.9 million) loan from responsAbility, a Swiss sustainable asset manager, along with the Development Bank of Austria (OeEB). The financing was directed toward advancing floating solar projects in the Maldives and other island states, providing support for the company’s regional expansion. The loan has enabled Swimsol to strengthen its role in delivering scalable clean energy solutions to small island nations.
The company has emphasized that its floating solar systems are built for durability in marine conditions, using corrosion-resistant technology to withstand tropical climates. This design approach ensures reliability and long-term performance, addressing key challenges faced by coastal installations.
