Lhyfe now has four RFNBO-certified sites:
Bouin (1 MW), Pays de la Loire, the world’s first hydrogen production site connected to a wind farm and the first French site certified in May 2025.
Buléon (5 MW), Bretagne, one of France’s largest hydrogen production sites.
Bessières (5 MW), Occitanie, also among France’s largest.
Schwäbisch Gmünd (10 MW), Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Lhyfe’s largest site to date and Germany’s second-largest RFNBO hydrogen production site, scheduled for official inauguration in October 2025.
The four sites together have a total installed capacity of 21 MW and can produce up to 8.3 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. Lhyfe is now the largest RFNBO hydrogen producer in Europe by installed capacity and number of sites and remains the only RFNBO-certified producer in France.
Since its creation, Lhyfe has prioritized regional coverage. Its distributed production network allows the company to optimize delivery distances through its container fleet of nearly 70 units, one of the largest and most modern in Europe. This setup supports bulk hydrogen distribution, bringing RFNBO hydrogen closer to industrial, mobility, and energy customers across the continent.
The RFNBO certification enables customers to verify the sustainability of the hydrogen they purchase and become eligible for national and EU grant schemes. The four sites already supply hydrogen for mobility, industrial applications, and testing in areas such as combustion, salt cavern storage, mixed boilers, and construction machinery, demonstrating flexibility in use and scalability.
Matthieu Guesné, founder and CEO of Lhyfe, said: “This certification is a key milestone – it validates the robustness of our industrial model, confirms our technological and regulatory lead, and above all proves that local production of truly renewable and traceable hydrogen is now possible on a large scale in Europe. We are proud to continue leading the way and accelerating the development of renewable hydrogen in France and Europe, ultimately contributing to our decarbonisation and energy sovereignty.”
Lhyfe obtained support from key partners: Atmen, for its integrated compliance automation platform enabling detailed traceability; CertifHy, one of the first EU-approved RFNBO certification schemes; and Tüv Süd, authorized to certify under CertifHy. Together, these collaborations have strengthened Lhyfe’s position as a leader in renewable hydrogen production and distribution across Europe.
