The collection includes six curated Masterpiece sets, showcasing the finest diamonds from both operations, alongside 39 single stones and seven additional curated sets. Notable highlights include one GIA Fancy Red diamond, 12 Fancy Violet diamonds, 76 Fancy Pink and Purple-Pink stones, a 6.12-carat Fancy Vivid Yellow diamond, and two D-colour Flawless white diamonds weighing 5.11 and 3.02 carats, both cut from the same rough.
“It is hard to overstate the importance of this final collection from two extraordinarily beautiful places on earth – the East Kimberley region of Western Australia and the Northwest Territories of Canada,” said Patrick Coppens, Rio Tinto Diamonds General Manager of Sales and Marketing. “No other mining company in the world has custody of such an exquisite collection of diamond colours, shapes and sizes and we all pay tribute to the men and women who have worked so hard over many years to bring them to market.”
The diamonds, valued for their rarity and unique provenance, are expected to attract significant interest from jewelers, collectors, and enthusiasts. Showcases will take place in Hong Kong, Australia, and Antwerp, with bidding concluding on October 20, 2025. The tender represents a final opportunity to acquire these exceptional stones from two of the world’s most renowned diamond sources.
Rio Tinto’s Beyond Rare tender underscores the company’s legacy of delivering high-quality, ethically sourced diamonds. The event highlights the craftsmanship and dedication involved in bringing these gems to market, while also marking the end of an era for the Argyle and Diavik operations. The collection is poised to contribute to the global luxury market, supporting demand for rare and vibrant diamonds.
