This development represents Vietsovpetro’s second offshore project completed in 2025, highlighting its integrated expertise in geology, field design, drilling, engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), and commissioning. The platform’s early start-up demonstrates the joint venture’s strength in developing marginal and small-scale oil fields with optimized costs and enhanced operational efficiency.
PetroVietnam stated that the timely commissioning of BK-24 contributes to ensuring Vietnam’s national energy security and increasing state revenue. The success of the project further consolidates Vietsovpetro’s role as one of the leading operators in Vietnam’s offshore oil and gas industry, known for its ability to deliver complex projects under tight schedules.
Located in the Bach Ho field, one of Vietnam’s most important oil-producing regions, the BK-24 wellhead platform was designed and constructed by Vietsovpetro’s technical team. The achievement reflects the collaboration between Vietnamese and Russian engineers in maintaining high standards of quality and safety while improving cost efficiency in offshore operations.
In addition to this milestone, PetroVietnam held discussions with Russia’s Gazprom in May 2025 to explore future cooperation opportunities in the energy sector. The meeting addressed potential joint work on the infill drilling stage at two oil fields in Vietnam’s Nam Con Son Basin. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships to enhance exploration and production performance in Vietnam’s offshore regions.
Meanwhile, other international companies have also reported exploration progress offshore Vietnam. In the Cuu Long Basin, Houston-based Murphy Oil recently made an oil discovery at the Lac Da Hong (Pink Camel) field in Block 15-1/05, signaling further potential for hydrocarbon development in the area.
The successful early start-up of BK-24 underscores Vietsovpetro’s ability to manage multiple offshore projects efficiently and deliver ahead of schedule. The project’s completion is viewed as a step toward sustaining Vietnam’s oil output and supporting its broader energy goals.
PetroVietnam reaffirmed its commitment to advancing offshore development projects and promoting cooperation with international partners to optimize resource utilization and enhance energy production capacity. The company noted that lessons learned from BK-24 will be applied to future offshore operations, ensuring continued progress in Vietnam’s energy sector.
Overall, the launch of the BK-24 platform strengthens Vietsovpetro’s position as a key contributor to Vietnam’s petroleum industry and reflects the ongoing collaboration between Vietnam and Russia in offshore oil and gas exploration and production.
