The Gridstack Pro 5000 solution’s parts will be made in the US.
Located next to two 80MW solar arrays, the Winchester BESS will provide a total energy storage capacity of 160MW/640MWh through two identical systems. Once operational, it will help stabilize the power grid, manage peak load demand, and support growing electricity consumption in the region. The facility is also expected to promote local economic development and attract infrastructure investment to Cochise County.
Fluence’s Gridstack Pro 5000 will include enclosures, inverters, and thermal management systems manufactured domestically, ensuring the project meets requirements for domestic content tax credits. The design also aims to strengthen U.S. manufacturing capacity and enhance energy reliability.
Fluence Americas President John Zahurancik said: “We’re proud to partner with Torch Clean Energy on the Winchester project and to bring this important power resource to the Arizona electric grid. This facility is a great step toward ensuring affordable, reliable, and secure power for the local community and will support regional economic activity and expected load growth for many years to come.”
Torch Clean Energy President Travis Haggard said: “Torch is excited to partner with Fluence to manufacture the energy storage system for our Winchester project. The Gridstack Pro 5000 will allow us to shift cost-effective solar generation to be dispatched when the grid needs it most.”
Fluence Energy, a global leader in energy storage and digital applications for renewables, has already deployed or contracted more than 22GWh of battery storage capacity across over 90 projects in the United States. Its systems are widely used to support utilities and developers seeking advanced grid stabilization and renewable integration solutions.
Torch Clean Energy focuses on developing, owning, and operating renewable energy and storage assets, with a strong presence in the mid-Atlantic region and the desert Southwest. The company has developed and sold over 1.2GW of renewable power projects, contributing to the transition toward cleaner energy sources in the U.S.
In August 2024, Fluence Energy announced plans to install an additional 2.2GWh of BESS infrastructure nationwide from 2025, further expanding its footprint in the American energy market.
The Winchester project represents a key milestone in enhancing Arizona’s clean energy capacity, integrating solar and storage technologies to strengthen grid reliability while supporting the state’s long-term sustainability and economic goals.
