Under the agreement, Neste provides its Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ in its pure form, which is then blended with conventional jet fuel to meet industry standards. Deliveries to George Bush Airport began in July 2025 and will continue through October 2025. Supplies to Newark and Dulles airports started in September 2025 and are scheduled to run until the end of 2025. The SAF is transported through existing pipeline infrastructure from Neste’s terminal facilities in Houston, ensuring efficient delivery to each airport.
“Introducing SAF for the first time at our hubs in Houston, Newark, and Dulles is another significant milestone in United’s sustainability journey,” said United Chief Sustainability Officer Lauren Riley. “While United remains one of the leading SAF users in the U.S., using over 4,300 tons last year, we recognize that the growth of the SAF market requires support from both state and federal governments. We will continue collaborating with stakeholders, like Neste, across the aviation value chain to encourage policymakers to implement sensible market incentives that promote lower-carbon energy.”
The partnership supports the aviation industry’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Neste’s commitment to scaling SAF production is emphasized by Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President, Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste, who stated: “We are thrilled to enable United Airlines to expand SAF use to new markets in the U.S. It is crucial that more states enact proven incentive policy frameworks to accelerate the production of SAF and support the aviation industry towards its bold net-zero carbon emission goal by 2050. We remain fully committed to supporting our customers in reducing emissions by scaling our SAF production and supply capabilities.”
This initiative builds on United’s leadership in SAF adoption, having utilized significant volumes in prior years. The expansion to these airports enhances access to lower-carbon fuel, reducing the environmental impact of flights. By leveraging existing infrastructure, the partnership ensures seamless integration of SAF into operations, supporting both economic and environmental objectives.
The collaboration highlights the importance of industry partnerships in advancing sustainable aviation. As demand for SAF grows, Neste and United are working to encourage supportive policies that foster production and adoption. This effort positions the U.S. aviation sector as a leader in sustainable fuel use, contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency.
