The Fujairah F3 project stands as the largest CCGT-based power plant in the UAE.
The Fujairah F3 project involves the construction, operation, and maintenance of a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant using natural gas as its primary fuel source. With a total generation capacity of 2,400 megawatts, it is now the largest CCGT power plant in the UAE. The electricity produced will be supplied to the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA), ensuring stable long-term energy supply to the region.
The investment in the Fujairah F3 project is shared among its four partners. TAQA holds the largest stake at 40%, followed by Marubeni with 20.4%, Mubadala with 20%, and Hokuriku Electric Power Company with 19.6%. This diversified ownership structure reflects strong international collaboration between leading energy and investment firms.
The power plant is equipped with Mitsubishi Power’s advanced JAC-class gas turbine generators configured in a combined cycle system. This technology enhances both efficiency and reliability, enabling the facility to deliver cleaner and more stable power output while reducing emissions compared to conventional gas-fired plants.
Industry observers regard the Fujairah F3 project as a key addition to the UAE’s energy infrastructure. It supports the nation’s long-term plan to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability by expanding cleaner energy options and improving grid flexibility. While the UAE has made significant progress in developing renewable energy sources such as solar power, it continues to face challenges in ensuring consistent power supply during nighttime hours and maintaining quick-response capacity for fluctuating demand. The new plant is designed to help address these needs through its high operational efficiency and flexible generation capability.
Fujairah F3’s completion further strengthens the UAE’s position as a regional leader in adopting advanced power generation technologies. The project demonstrates how international partnerships and modern gas turbine systems can complement renewable initiatives to create a more resilient and sustainable energy mix.
By combining state-of-the-art engineering with long-term planning, the Fujairah F3 power plant is expected to play a vital role in meeting the UAE’s growing energy demands, supporting industrial development, and contributing to its transition toward a diversified, low-carbon energy future.
