Eric Martel, CEO of private jet maker Bombardier, attends the launch of the Global 8000 aircraft during the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, May 23, 2022.
The Global 8000, part of Bombardier’s flagship Global series, is designed to reach a maximum speed of Mach 0.95, equivalent to about 729 miles per hour. This performance would make it the fastest operational passenger jet in service once commercial flights begin. The aircraft combines high speed with long-range capability, targeting the premium segment of the business aviation market.
In October, Bombardier added a new order from Comlux Aviation for the Global 8000 to its growing backlog, further strengthening its position in the long-range business jet market. The Canadian manufacturer confirmed that the first Global 8000 will be delivered later this year, though the identity of the customer has not yet been disclosed.
The certification represents a major step in Bombardier’s efforts to advance its portfolio of high-performance aircraft. The Global 8000 program aims to enhance flight efficiency and comfort while setting new benchmarks for speed and range in private aviation. The company has highlighted the aircraft’s advanced aerodynamics, state-of-the-art avionics, and refined cabin design as part of its strategy to attract business travelers and charter operators worldwide.
According to Bombardier, the jet’s certification from Canada’s transport regulator follows a series of successful test flights demonstrating compliance with stringent performance and safety standards. The aircraft is expected to provide a range of about 8,000 nautical miles, enabling non-stop travel between major global city pairs such as Los Angeles and Dubai, or London and Perth.
The upcoming approvals from the FAA and EASA will be essential for the aircraft’s entry into key international markets. Bombardier said the Global 8000’s combination of speed, fuel efficiency, and cabin comfort positions it competitively against other long-range business jets currently offered by U.S. and European manufacturers.
The company continues to expand its business aviation segment amid rising demand for high-performance private aircraft. The Global 8000, once fully certified globally, is expected to become a flagship model, reinforcing Bombardier’s reputation for innovation and technical excellence in the business jet sector.
With production ramping up and the first deliveries planned within the year, Bombardier’s achievement of Transport Canada certification signals the near completion of the Global 8000’s development phase and the beginning of its entry into the market.
