Urban Windelen, Federal Managing Director of the Federal Association of Energy Storage Systems (BVES), also attended, noting the increasing role of battery storage in Germany’s energy system.
Bernd Schneider, representing grid operator 50Hertz, highlighted the technical benefits of large-scale battery facilities, including fast response times and the ability to provide ancillary services to the electricity network. René Zok, Mayor of Staßfurt, welcomed the project’s potential economic benefits, including job creation and local investment opportunities. Georg Gallmetzer, Managing Director of Eco Stor, described the facility as a “key milestone for energy storage in Germany,” emphasizing the company’s commitment to advancing grid-scale battery technology.
The Förderstedt battery storage project will help Germany manage fluctuations from renewable energy generation, particularly wind and solar, by storing excess electricity during periods of high production and releasing it when demand rises.
