The move reinforces the longstanding partnership between the companies.
Shanghai Electric Group president Zhu Zhaokai said: “Shanghai Electric and Siemens share a longstanding partnership built on decades of trust and joint ventures. This agreement marks a new milestone in our cooperation and an important step toward building intelligent, green energy systems. We look forward to deepening collaboration with Siemens to create benchmark projects for a greener power grid.”
Siemens Energy emphasized China’s central role in the global energy transition and reaffirmed its commitment to the partnership with Shanghai Electric. The two companies plan to develop high-end equipment and integrated solutions, aiming to deliver additional ‘lighthouse projects’ for a sustainable energy future.
Shanghai Electric and Siemens have maintained close technological collaboration and market cooperation for more than 30 years, jointly contributing to China’s power transmission and distribution sector. Earlier this year, in April 2025, the companies signed a strategic cooperation agreement to advance power transmission, digitalisation, and low-carbon initiatives. In July 2025, Siemens Energy executive board member Karim Amin visited Shanghai Electric to discuss energy technology synergy, system integration, and global market development.
The new agreement is expected to further accelerate the green transformation of the power system industry, reinforce Shanghai Electric’s leadership in transmission and distribution equipment, and open new opportunities for international cooperation. Both parties will work on establishing projects that deliver mutual benefits while creating sustainable and intelligent power grids.
In parallel, Siemens Energy is expanding its transformer manufacturing facility in Nuremberg, Germany, which began in September 2025, responding to rising global demand for large transformers essential for grid expansion. This expansion aligns with the focus of the new agreement, supporting the development and deployment of advanced power system equipment for low- and medium-voltage grids.
Together, Shanghai Electric and Siemens aim to integrate their decades-long technological experience and market expertise to advance green energy systems, digitalisation, and sustainability. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging innovation to support the global energy transition and build benchmark projects that exemplify intelligent, low-carbon power infrastructure.
This framework agreement strengthens a long-term collaboration and positions both companies to lead in the transformation of power transmission and distribution, creating a foundation for continued technological advancement and international cooperation in the renewable energy and smart grid sectors.
