The Nutrien Cory Potash mine that is a conventional mine that produces potash products used by agriculture producers near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada April 20, 2025.
The proposed facility aims to support growing global demand for the company’s Saskatchewan-origin potash, a key nutrient used in agricultural fertilizers worldwide. A final investment decision on the project is scheduled for 2027.
The Longview location on the U.S. west coast would provide direct access to deep-water port facilities and efficient rail connections to Nutrien’s mining and processing operations in Saskatchewan, Canada. The terminal would enable larger vessel loadings and faster turnaround times for exports to major markets in Asia, Latin America, and other regions.
Nutrien previously evaluated several potential sites in Canada for expanded export capacity, but the company now considers the Washington state option as a strategic complement to its existing network.
Once operational, the terminal is expected to significantly boost Nutrien’s ability to move Saskatchewan potash to international customers, reinforcing the province’s position as a primary global supply source for this essential crop nutrient.
The announcement reflects ongoing efforts by Nutrien to optimize logistics and expand export infrastructure in response to sustained demand growth from agricultural sectors around the world. No specific timeline for construction start or capacity figures has been released pending the 2027 investment decision.
Nutrien continues to operate major export terminals in Canada, including facilities at Vancouver, British Columbia, and through partnerships in other locations, while exploring additional opportunities to enhance distribution efficiency for its Saskatchewan production.
