The facility will connect directly to Litgrid’s 110 kV high-voltage substation, providing essential frequency regulation and balancing reserves as renewable energy capacity continues to grow across the Baltic region. It will also enable participation in the Baltic and Nord Pool balancing markets, supporting greater cross-border energy integration.
Dr. Kristina Norvaišien?, Executive Director at MT Group, stated: “Rietavas BESS highlights MT Group’s commitment to delivering the next generation of smart energy infrastructure. Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming central to the modern power grid ensuring flexibility, supporting renewable generation and enabling a more interconnected Baltic energy market. This project is another step towards building a resilient, future-ready energy system for the region.”
Arturas Jacikas, Chief Executive of Pure Energy Solutions, commented: “This project demonstrates how strong local partnerships can accelerate the deployment of modern balancing assets. We are proud to have MT Group as the right EPC partner combining proven technical excellence, reliability and a deep understanding of Lithuania’s energy infrastructure. Rietavas BESS will set a new benchmark for large-scale storage projects, enhancing grid flexibility and cross-border stability across the Baltic and Nordic electricity markets.”
The installation will contribute to Lithuania’s energy system resilience and facilitate the continued expansion of renewable generation in the region. By delivering rapid-response storage capacity at transmission level, the project strengthens grid stability and supports the efficient integration of variable wind and solar resources throughout the Baltics.
