This new commitment follows an $11 billion investment in the state announced last year and will add 2.4 gigawatts of power capacity to the region. The project is expected to create around 1,100 permanent jobs.
Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $31.3 billion in Indiana, establishing the state as a key location for its data center operations. The company operates as the world’s leading provider of cloud computing services through Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Major technology companies, including Alphabet (GOOGL.O), Microsoft (MSFT.O), and Meta (META.O), continue to allocate substantial funds toward building artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure to support advancing AI applications.
Separately on the same day, Amazon revealed plans to invest up to $50 billion to enhance AI and high-performance computing capabilities for United States government customers through AWS. The company emphasized that the two announcements represent distinct investment initiatives.
For the Northern Indiana development, Amazon has reached an agreement with NIPSCO, a major electricity and natural gas utility in the state. Under the terms, Amazon will cover fees for existing power usage and fully fund any additional power infrastructure required for the data centers.
The arrangement ensures that local residents and businesses will not face increased electricity costs as a result of the project.
These investments highlight Amazon’s ongoing efforts to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure across the United States while supporting economic development and job creation in the communities where its facilities are located.
