The approval was issued by the local Development and Reform Commission on 24 November 2025. Once operational, the plant will become one of the largest long-duration energy storage systems in the country, significantly enhancing Henan Province's ability to integrate increasing volumes of renewable energy into the grid.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, following completion of required environmental impact assessments, land-use approvals, and detailed planning procedures.
The project supports national and provincial goals for building flexible, modern power infrastructure capable of balancing variable wind and solar generation while ensuring stable electricity supply.
