The companies involved were Vinacomin Coal and Mineral Import–Export Joint Stock Company and Vinacomin–Northern Coal Trading Joint Stock Company. The agreement marks a new step in coal trade cooperation between Vinacomin and energy enterprises in Laos.
The contract follows detailed discussions and negotiations between the parties. It supports Vinacomin's efforts to develop new markets while maintaining stable and efficient operations across its production and business activities.
The signing coincides with preparations in Laos for the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, reflecting the long-standing and reliable partnership between Vietnam and Laos.
Earlier, on November 9 in Vientiane, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Minister of Energy and Mines of Laos signed a government-level cooperation agreement on coal and electricity trade. This strategic document establishes a foundation for sustained collaboration in the energy and minerals sectors between the two neighbouring countries.
The new supply contract aligns with the broader framework set by the intergovernmental agreement, contributing to strengthened energy ties and mutual benefit in the region. Both sides expressed confidence that continued cooperation will support reliable energy supply and economic development objectives.
Vinacomin continues to play an active role in regional energy trade, building on established relationships to meet growing demand from power generation projects in Laos and beyond. The agreement demonstrates practical progress in implementing high-level commitments made between Vietnam and Laos in the coal and power sectors.
