Alex Lim, Executive Vice President and Head of Korea Sales & Marketing office, presents a Galaxy Z TriFold during an event at its store in Seoul, South Korea, December 2, 2025.
Priced at 3.59 million won (about $2,440), the TriFold will launch in South Korea on December 12, 2025, with subsequent availability in China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates before the end of the year. A release in the United States is planned for the first quarter of 2026.
The new model incorporates Samsung's largest-capacity battery among current flagship devices and supports rapid charging that reaches 50 percent capacity in 30 minutes. Production takes place in South Korea.
Alex Lim, Executive Vice President and head of Samsung Electronics Korea Sales & Marketing Office, stated: "I believe the foldable market will continue to grow, and the TriFold in particular could act as a catalyst that drives more explosive growth in key parts of the segment." He added that the device targets customers who specifically seek this form factor rather than serving as a high-volume product.
Industry observers note that the TriFold represents Samsung's latest advancement in flexible display technology at a time when several manufacturers are expanding their foldable offerings. Huawei introduced the sector's first commercially available tri-fold phone in September 2025, while additional competitors are preparing similar devices for future release.
Ryu Young-ho, senior analyst at NH Investment & Securities, commented: "The trifold is a first-generation product, and it's the first time a trifold design is being commercialised, so it's hard to see Samsung pushing large volumes at this stage." He highlighted that, unlike the more established Galaxy Z Fold series, the new format may require further refinement in areas such as durability and production efficiency.
Market research firm Counterpoint Research forecasts that foldable smartphones will represent less than 2 percent of global smartphone shipments in 2025 and remain below 3 percent through 2027, indicating the category continues to address a specialised portion of the overall market.
Samsung recorded a 64 percent share of global foldable shipments in the third quarter of 2025, according to Counterpoint, demonstrating the impact of new model availability on quarterly rankings.
The launch underscores ongoing innovation in display and hinge technology, with manufacturers working to improve usability, reduce thickness, and expand practical applications for larger-screen foldable devices in both consumer and professional settings.
