The project is divided into two phases. The first phase involves front-end engineering and design (FEED), followed by engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) in the second phase, subject to final approval from ExxonMobil Guyana and its Stabroek Block co-venturers. The LNTP enables MODEC to start design activities, targeting an early project startup by 2029, pending necessary authorizations.
The Hammerhead FPSO is designed to produce 150,000 barrels of oil per day and includes facilities for processing associated gas and water. It will be anchored in approximately 1,025 meters of water using a SOFEC spread mooring system, ensuring stability and efficiency in Guyana’s offshore environment.
This contract marks MODEC’s second FPSO project in Guyana, following the Errea Wittu FPSO, which is under construction for ExxonMobil Guyana’s Uaru development. Additionally, an Operations and Maintenance Enabling Agreement (OMEA) has been established to provide long-term services for multiple MODEC-operated FPSOs in the region, strengthening operational continuity.
Hirohiko Miyata, president and CEO of MODEC Group, stated: “We are incredibly honored and excited to have been awarded this contract. It is a testament to our team's dedication, expertise, and commitment to delivering innovative and reliable offshore floating solutions. We look forward to collaborating closely with ExxonMobil Guyana to ensure the successful delivery of this second FPSO, contributing to the advancement of the offshore energy sector in Guyana.”
The Hammerhead project underscores MODEC’s expertise in delivering advanced offshore infrastructure. By leveraging its experience, the company aims to support Guyana’s growing energy sector, ensuring efficient and reliable production. The FPSO’s design prioritizes high performance, incorporating modern technology to meet the project’s operational demands.
This collaboration between MODEC and ExxonMobil Guyana highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing offshore energy development. The Hammerhead FPSO will contribute to Guyana’s energy production capacity, supporting economic growth and sustainable resource development. MODEC’s ongoing work in the region positions it as a key player in Guyana’s expanding offshore industry.
The project reflects a shared commitment to innovation and efficiency, paving the way for continued progress in Guyana’s energy landscape. MODEC’s efforts will help ensure the Hammerhead FPSO meets its production goals, delivering long-term value to stakeholders and the local economy.
