Acciona, a Spanish infrastructure company, has secured a €250 million contract to design, finance, construct, operate, and maintain a 330-kilometer, 220-kilovolt power transmission line in southern Peru for 30 years. The project includes building two new substations in Quencoro Nueva and Onocora, as well as expanding three existing substations in Suriray, Quencoro, and Tintaya Nueva. With a capacity of 300 megavolt-amperes, the transmission line is set to begin operations in 2028.

Electric power lines in Chile’s desert

The Machupichu-Quencoro-Onocora-Tintaya transmission line will deliver electricity to the city of Cusco, where energy demand currently outstrips supply. It will also enhance the reliability of existing power lines in the region, improving access to stable electricity for local communities. The concession agreement for this project has been formalized with Darby International Capital, a private equity group.

This initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen energy infrastructure in southern Peru, addressing growing electricity needs and supporting regional development. By expanding and modernizing the power grid, the project will contribute to a more consistent energy supply, benefiting residents and businesses in Cusco and surrounding areas.
