The agreement ensures a continuous energy supply, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The energy will come from Grenergy’s developing platform in central Chile, which includes hybrid projects designed for reliable power delivery. A key component is the Monte Águila plant, a 340-megawatt facility equipped with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to support consistent output.
Grenergy, with over 12 years of experience in Chile, has built nearly 100 clean energy projects and leads in renewable energy development. The company currently manages a platform with 4.6 gigawatts of solar capacity and 18.3 gigawatt-hours of storage. This PPA complements other long-term contracts, such as the Oasis de Atacama project, which features 11 gigawatt-hours of storage and 2 gigawatts of photovoltaic generation.
David Ruiz de Andrés, chief executive of Grenergy, stated: "This contract represents a significant achievement for Grenergy, not only because of the size of the agreement but also because it highlights our ability to deliver clean and highly competitive energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to major offtakers like Codelco."
Rubén Alvarado, executive president of Codelco, said: "With this contract, we strengthen our plan to fully decarbonise our electricity matrix by 2030, reinforcing the path toward sustainable mining aligned with our purpose of being a pillar for sustainable development in Chile and worldwide."
The partnership supports Codelco’s goal of decarbonizing its operations by 2030, aligning with sustainable mining practices. Grenergy’s focus on battery technology ensures a stable and cost-effective energy supply while enhancing grid reliability in Chile.
